show moreIt’s been a few weeks since the last episode release... do Chris and Lisa still have it? This week, Chris and Lisa sat in front of their (respective, cuz... rona) couches and watched The Boys in the Band on Netflix. The film, released in October 2020, is a revival of the original play which goes by the same name. Set in 1968, it first opened a year before the Stonewall riots. To get some help understanding the context and importance of this story, our special guest this week is Emmett Murphy. Director, designer, producer, and founder of showHive, Emmett guides us as we channel our spirit animals and drops some serious knowledge bombs.
If you’re still wondering about the title of the play, we’ve (Emmett) got an answer for you: “Mart Crowley's close friend, Dominick Dunne asked him about the origination of the play title: "It's that line in A Star is Born when James Mason tells a distraught Judy Garland, 'You're singing for yourself and the boys in the band.”
