Charles Lindbergh landed in Paris, France, completing the first solo, nonstop transatlantic flight. He took off from New York's Roosevelt Field and landed at Le Bourget Field near Paris, covering a distance of about 3,600 miles in 33.5 hours in his airplane, Spirit of St. Louis.
1881 American Red Cross Founded Clara Barton established the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. The organization provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and education in the United States.
