1 Samuel 13:6-14:
Cuando los hombres de Israel se vieron en aprietos, porque el pueblo fue puesto en apuros, se escondieron en cuevas, grietas, peñascos, fosas y cisternas. Y algunos de los hebreos cruzaron el Jordán hacia la tierra de Gad y de Galaad. Saúl estaba aún en Gilgal, y todo el pueblo iba tras él, temblando. Él esperó siete días, conforme al plazo que Samuel había señalado. Pero como Samuel no venía a Gilgal y el pueblo se le dispersaba, Saúl dijo: —Tráiganme el holocausto y los sacrificios de paz.
Él ofreció el holocausto. Y sucedió que al acabar de ofrecer el holocausto, he aquí que venía Samuel. Saúl le salió al encuentro para saludarlo y Samuel le preguntó: —¿Qué has hecho?
Saúl respondió: —Cuando vi que el pueblo se me dispersaba, que tú no venías en el plazo señalado y que los filisteos estaban reuniéndose en Micmas, entonces pensé: “Los filisteos descenderán ahora a Gilgal contra mí, y yo no he implorado el favor de SEÑOR”. Por eso me vi forzado y ofrecí el holocausto.
Entonces Samuel dijo a Saúl: —Has actuado torpemente. No guardaste el mandamiento que el SEÑOR tu Dios te dio. ¡Pues ahora el SEÑOR hubiera confirmado tu reino sobre Israel para siempre! Pero ahora tu reino no será duradero. El SEÑOR se ha buscado un hombre según su corazón, a quien el SEÑOR ha designado como el soberano de su pueblo, porque tú no has guardado lo que el SEÑOR te mandó. --------------

Desde este capítulo en adelante, veremos el ascenso y la caída de Saúl.
Este es el primer de muchos errores que Saúl cometió causado por la presión de los momentos difíciles, de circunstancias externas que hicieron que él tomara decisiones apresuradas que destruyeron el plan de Dios en su vida.
Aquí vemos que Saúl se puso muy nervioso al ver que el pueblo se estaba desanimando en el campo de batalla porque Samuel, el profeta, no llegaba rápido a celebrar el sacrificio. Aunque Samuel les dió un periodo de tiempo para llegar, que era siete días, Saul se desesperó y se tomó el atrevimiento de ofrecerlo él mismo, cuando el orden era que el profeta lo ofreciera para que Dios bendijera al pueblo en la batalla. Samuel llegó justo en el tiempo acordado, pero ya era demasiado tarde, Saúl ya había tomado la decisión equivocada.
Lo triste es que esta fue la razón por la cual el reino de Saúl no fue duradero, o más bien, ya Dios no estaba con él; y aunque él sabía que Dios había escogido a otro para reemplazarlo como rey, Saul forzó su estadía en el trono y cometió varios crímenes en un intento de gobernar sin la bendición de Dios.
Las palabras que expresó Samuel a Saúl fue de asombro al ver el gran error de su actitud desafiante, impaciente y altiva. ¡Él le dijo que había actuado torpemente! En la versión 1960 remarca esta expresión como: "locamente has hecho". Otras vesiones lo traducen como: "estás loco" o "eres un tonto".
Torpeza, locura, tontería son expresiones para describir la acción de Saúl.
De la misma manera, Moisés, el gran profeta, libertador y líder de Israel, cometió una acción similar que le costó la entrada a la tierra prometida. Después que le pidió perdón al Señor y reconoció su error, Dios no le concedió la bendición de entrar a Canaán con el pueblo porque no honró a Dios delante de los israelitas al pegarle a la roca, en vez de hablarle como Dios se lo pidió para que brotara agua.
En Eclesiastés 10:1 leemos este consejo: "Las moscas muertas hacen heder y dar mal olor al perfume del perfumista; así una pequeña locura, al que es estimado como sabio y honorable."

Cuidemos nuestras reacciones. Meditemos primero antes de actuar. Midamos cada palabra que sale de nuestra boca en el momento de una discusión acalorada. No tomes una decisión a la ligera sin evaluar las consecuencias o el precio que se va a pagar. No nos dejemos llevar por los impulsos. No hagas nada en un momento de emociones extremas. Ni cuando estés muy feliz, enojado, triste o nervioso. Usualmente cuando estamos impacientes o desesperados compramos algo que no estaba en nuestro presupuesto, decimos cosas que harán heridas que tomarán tiempo sanarlas, decisiones equivocadas que serán irreversibles y tomarán tiempo repararlas, y sufriremos consecuencias que tomaran años enfrentarlas.
No quiero decir que te quedes paralizado y no hagas nada en tu vida, ni que nunca te vas a equivocar. Simplemente toma tu tiempo para que el enojo mengüe, para que evalúes tu opciones, para que analices mejor las cosas y después haz lo que Dios te muestre en oración y dialogando con tu esposo o esposa; de esta manera tus hijos no van a sufrir. Evita cometer alguna locura o torpeza que te llevará a destruir lo que has construido hasta ahora o te hará perder tu perfume de olor grato a Dios después de haber caminado tanto tiempo haciendo la voluntad de Dios.

1 Samuel 13: A reaction of foolishness and craziness.

1 Samuel 13:6-14:
When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger (for the people were distressed), then the people hid in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in holes, and in pits. And some of the Hebrews crossed over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. So Saul said, “Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.” And he offered the burnt offering. Now it happened, as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him. And Samuel said, “What have you done?”
Saul said, “When I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered together at Michmash, then I said, ‘The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.’ Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering.”
And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

From this chapter forward, we will see the rise and fall of Saul.
This is the first of many mistakes that Saul made caused by the pressure of difficult times, of external circumstances that caused him to make hasty decisions that destroyed God's plan in his life.
Here we see that Saul became very nervous when he saw the people were getting discouraged on the battlefield because Samuel, the prophet, did not arrive quickly to celebrate the sacrifice. Although Samuel gave them a period of time to arrive, which was seven days, Saul became desperate and dared to offer it himself, when the order was that the prophet offer it so that God would bless the people in battle. Samuel arrived just at the agreed time, but it was already too late, Saul had already made the wrong decision.
The sad thing is that this was the reason why Saul's kingdom did not last, or rather, God was no longer with him; and although he knew that God had chosen another to replace him as king, Saul forced his stay on the throne and committed various crimes in an attempt to rule without God's blessing.
The words that Samuel expressed to Saul were of astonishment when he saw the big error of his defiant, impatient and haughty attitude. He told him that he had acted foolishly! The Spanish 1960 version remarks this expression as: "crazily you have done". Other Spanish versions translate it as: "you're crazy" or "you're a fool".
Craziness, foolishness are expressions to describe Saul's action.
In the same way, Moses, the great prophet, liberator and leader of Israel, committed a similar action that cost him entrance to the promised land. After he asked the Lord for forgiveness and recognized his mistake, God did not grant him the blessing of entering Canaan with the people because he did not honor God before the Israelites by hitting the rock, instead of speaking to it as God asked him to do so that water would flow.
In Ecclesiastes 10:1 we read this advice: “Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, and cause it to give off a foul odor; so does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor.”
Let's take care of our reactions. Let's meditate first before acting. Let's measure every word that comes out of our mouth at the time of a heated discussion. Do not make a decision lightly without evaluating the consequences or the price that will be paid. Let's not get carried away by impulses. Do nothing in a moment of extreme emotions. Not when you are very happy, angry, sad or nervous. Usually when we are impatient or desperate we buy something that was not in our budget, we say things that will cause wounds that will take time to heal, wrong decisions that will be irreversible and will take time to repair, and we will suffer consequences that will take years to face.
I do not mean that you stay paralyzed and do nothing in your life, nor that you will never be wrong. Simply take your time so that the anger subsides, so that you evaluate your options, so that you analyze things better and then do what God shows you in prayer and dialogue with your husband or wife; this way your children will not suffer. Avoid committing any craziness or foolishness that will lead you to destroy what you have built up to now or will make you lose your pleasing smelling perfume to God after having walked for so long doing God's will.
