show moreYour mindset. I was just talking to one of my clients today about the Reticular Activating System in our brains. The job of our “RAS” is to manage our focus. Because let’s be real... if we were to focus on EVERYTHING at once, our brains would probably explode (lol). So the RAS is a protective, filter mechanism designed by your neurological wiring, which is designed by you. And let’s take “confirmation bias” into account, which is the concept of placing most of your attention on what you believe most to be true.
So to tie all of this together, this would mean that you get in life what you focus on most and you are in control of what you focus on, by way of your Reticular Activating System. So now you’re probably thinking, “Ok, well how do I reprogram my RAS so that I start focusing my mind on what I want, instead of all of the blandness/stressors/uncertainties in my life?” And the answer is repetition of feeling and visualizing what you want.
Think of how any physical habit is formed. You need to repeatedly do it, be held accountable to it and talk yourself through it, regardless of how you might feel in that moment. Same goes for creating a healthy, productive and positive mindset. It’s putting yourself in the physical state of how it would feel to attain this goal and the mental vision of what it would look like to actually possess this goal- over and over again. Have this meditation twice/day until your RAS says “Ok, this is obviously important. I’m going to take it out of the filtered, so he starts becoming more aware of this specific thing in his day to day life”.
Train your mind to see what you want in life. Because what you can see and feel, you can ultimately have.
