Finding Hope In Star Trek
“The miserable have no other medicine but only hope”
Matt Hansen couldn’t make this week’s episode, so Lee is joined by his girlfriend Lauren Riley to discuss Star Trek Beyond. With some Dutch courage, Lauren fills in for Matt as they share their thoughts on turning to Star Trek Beyond after the American election and the loss of Leonard Cohen, Lauren's favourite musician.
Both lifelong Star Trek fans, they talk about why they felt Star Trek Beyond was the perfect pick to end a tough week for them and how they felt after watching it. Lee and Lauren look at the parallels with history and why Star Trek’s message in 2016 is just as important now as during the Cold War and Civil Rights Era.
Anton Yelchin’s tragic loss still lingers on their mind and they speak about coming to terms with his death and how that’s affected their viewings of the Kelvin-Timeline movies.
Lauren shares some of her favourite Star Trek memories like attending premieres, seeing Generations for the first time and their recent trip as a couple to Destination Star Trek Europe.
Do you think that the message of Star Trek Beyond resonates even more now?
