Scrivere a macchina mi piace così tanto che mi sono persino comprata una tastiera per il computer che sembra una macchina da scrivere, e fa il rumore di una macchina da scrivere meccanica. Ma i vantaggi della macchina da scrivere sono molti, anche oggi nell'era digitale.

Una delle competenze più utili in assoluto che ho imparato alle superiori è stata quella di saper scrivere a macchina con dieci dita senza guardare la tastiera. Ho fatto le superiori alle commerciali, nonostante gli insegnanti della scuola media avessero fortemente consigliato che mi iscriversi ad un liceo. Io però avevo deciso di iscrivermi alle commerciali perché avevo il sogno di diplomarmi, trovarmi un lavoro e andare a vivere da sola, per essere indipendente totalmente. Poi in effetti una volta finite le superiori mi avevano anche offerto un posto in banca, che io con grande orrore di tutta la mia famiglia avevo rifiutato perché non ne volevo sentire mezza di lavorare a tempo pieno ma volevo naturalmente continuare all'università, poi mi sono trasferita all'estero ecc. Però una delle cose che ho imparato alle superiori è appunto scrivere a macchina a dieci dita. E scrivere a macchina, usare la tastiera senza guardare con una discreta velocità è una cosa che ti aiuta tantissimo, soprattutto se poi per il resto della vita tua comunque il mestiere che fai ha a che fare con la scrittura. E ho avuto diverse macchine da scrivere nella mia vita, una ce l'ho ancora appesa nel muro in cucina, sì proprio appesa al muro, però non la uso quasi mai, e devo dire che la macchina da scrivere sta tornando in auge, e in alcune parti del mondo non è mai scomparsa. Leggevo proprio oggi un articolo dove spiegano come, ad esempio, in India fuori dai tribunali ci siano decine di persone che lì con la macchina da scrivere ti copiano e a volte anche ti traducono sul momento gli atti processuali. E comunque, in paesi come l'India, la macchina da scrivere viene ancora molto usata perché in India sono diffusissimi i black out e quindi non si può fare affidamento su un computer, e contemporaneamente, scrivere a macchina, imparare a scrivere sulla tastiera, è comunque una cosa che ti servirà anche più avanti quando andrai a lavorare in un ufficio dove c'è l'elettricità e dove si usano i computer, perché la tastiera del computer è identica alla tastiera della macchina da scrivere. Inoltre, anche in paesi dove non ci sono grossi problemi di black out, sempre di più si usano le macchine da scrivere perché scrivere un documento sulla macchina è l'unico modo per garantire che nessuno ce lo possa rubare perché, a differenza del computer che comunque è connesso, o comunque un hacker ci può entrare, nella macchina da scrivere beh, quella proprio è impossibile da hackerare quindi: viva le macchine da scrivere!

One of the most useful skills I ever learned in high school was being able to type with ten fingers without looking at the keyboard. I went to a technical high school, although middle school teachers strongly advised me to go to a lyceum. But I had decided to enrol in a commercial school because I had the dream of graduating, finding a job and going to live alone, to be totally independent. Then in fact, once I finished high school, I was offered a job in the bank, which I, to the horror of my whole family, refused because I didn't want to hear half of working full time but I naturally wanted to continue at the university, then I moved abroad etc. But one of the things I learned in high school is typing with ten fingers. And typing, using the keyboard without looking, at a decent speed is something that helps you a lot, especially if for the rest of your life, the job you do has to do with writing. And I've had several typewriters in my life, I still have one hanging on the wall in the kitchen, yeah right on the wall, but I hardly ever use it, and I have to say that typewriters are making a comeback, and in some parts of the world they have never disappeared. Just today I was reading an article where they explain how, for example, in India outside the courts there are dozens of people who type you the copy of procedural acts, and sometimes they even translate them for you on the spot. And anyway, in countries like India, the typewriter is still used a lot because in India blackouts are widespread and therefore you cannot rely on a computer, and at the same time, typewriter, learning to type on the keyboard, is something that you will need even later when you go to work in an office where there is electricity and where computers are used, because the computer keyboard is identical to the typewriter keyboard. Moreover, even in countries where there are no major blackout problems, typewriters are used more and more because writing a document on the machine is the only way to guarantee that no one can steal it from us because, unlike the computer that however it is connected, or in any case, a hacker can enter it, with the typewriter well, that is impossible to hack then: long live the typewriters!
