Qualche giorno fa mi sono presa una bella soddisfazione in un albergo francese. Sì, stavo appunto in Francia, in diversi alberghi, e in tutti questi alberghi nella stanza c'era una televisione e tutti i programmi erano in lingua francese, lingua che io non parlo, e non c'era modo di mettere i sottotitoli nessun in nessun modo.

Poi in uno di questi alberghi sono riuscita a hackerare la televisione, sono riuscita a cambiare il setting e ad avere tutti i programmi in lingua originale. La maggior parte erano comunque in francese, però ho avuto la fortuna di capitare sopra un film, il film è Westworld, un bellissimo film degli anni '70 con Yul Brynner, che vabbè, ho rivisto anche da adulta, ma che avevo visto per la prima volta da bambina, e non me lo ricordavo molto bene quindi ho approfittato dell'aver hackerato la televisione dell'albergo francese, e mi sono rivista tutto Westworld, che era praticamente appena iniziato, e io ricordo ancora come mi aveva terrorizzato da bambina. Mi ricordavo queste queste scene di Yul Brynner, tutto vestito di nero che rifiutava di morire, oddio, sto spoilerando, ma spero che l'abbiate già visto tutti questo film, rifiutava di morire, gli sparavano contro, gli sparavano contro.

Comunque mi ha fatto molto piacere rivederlo e ancora una volta ho potuto constatare come, due cose: uno è che quando ero bambina la televisione italiana faceva dei film pazzeschi e che mi hanno aiutato a farmi una cultura cinematografica, e due è che rivedere i film dopo tanti anni poi vabb, non sto dicendo niente di niente di nuovo, sto dicendo delle cose scontatissime, che è come rileggere un libro dopo molti anni, soprattutto se il libro era letto quando si era molto, molto giovani, rivedere un film che ci ha fatto molto impressione da bambini, poi magari si scopre che non è più il caso.

Invece in questo caso era ancora il caso, perché rimane un film spettacolare.

Most of them were in French anyway, however, I was lucky enough to happen upon a movie, the movie being Westworld, a beautiful movie from the 1970s with Yul Brynner, which, alright, I had seen again as an adult, but which I had seen for the first time as a child, and I didn't remember it very well so I took advantage of having hacked the French hotel television, and I rewatched the whole Westworld, which had practically just started, and I still remember how it terrified me as a child. I remembered these scenes with Yul Brynner all dressed in black, refusing to die, oh my God, I'm spoilering, but I hope you've all seen this movie before, refusing to die, being shot at, being shot at.

I had completely removed instead the other scenes, in the other worlds, in the Roman world, in the medieval world, I had absolutely removed them and I was really shocked by the image when they take off, so to speak, the mask to the robot who is supposed to be Yul Brynner and you see all the, all the gears, all the microprocessors and as a child that thing had really scared me very much, and then I remembered it much more looming, much longer also the scenes where the robots rebel, anyway mulfuncion, and I had in my mind this very long chase between Yul Brynner and the protagonist.

Anyway I was very pleased to see it again and once again I realised two things: one is that when I was a child Italian television showed some amazing movies that helped me to get a movie culture, and two is that seeing movies again after so many years then oh well, I'm not saying anything new, I'm saying some very obvious things, that it's like rereading a book after many years, especially if the book was read when you were very, very young, seeing a movie again that made a big impression on you as a child, then maybe you find that it's no longer the case.
Instead in this case it was still the case, because it remains a spectacular movie.
