Later this month (November 2023) comes the release of a new book that is said will challenge the official/mainstream narrative of John Lennon’s killing back in December 1980 when he was shot as he was returning to his home at the ‘Dakota’ apartment-building in New York with wife Yoko. The author is David Whelan, a TV-producer and former television-news researcher. I recorded a chat with him a week or so ago ahead of its release. His book is to be titled, ‘Mind Games – The Assassination of John Lennon.'

Many of the questions I’d pre-arranged to ask David were specifically tailored around aspects of the murder that myself, Mark Devlin and Desiree Hall had asked each other but that remained unanswered back in 2020 during a special two-part edition of the podcast series we co-host, ‘Magical Mystery Talk,’ in which we acknowledged the 40 years since Lennon’s killing and, as a result, went in rather deep into inconsistencies and anomalies surrounding his death. If you choose to listen and/or view my chat with Whelan, then you might appreciate the scans directly below of the outside of the Dakota, it’s where, according to the mainstream account, John was shot in the back by Chapman, a version of events that’s being challenged by David and who goes into some detail why whilst talking to me. I’m thinking that, perhaps, in order to fully appreciate and/or understand this perspective of his, it would be useful to view the officially-accepted scene of the crime whilst listening to him talking to me about what the mainstream says occurred when Lennon was hit by bullets, and what Whelan has deduced – to quote him from an email message to me, “the geography is so important.”

According to the mainstream/official account, Lennon made his way towards and through the “vestibule doors” under the Dakota archway entrance after he was shot four times in the back by Chapman.
