Acting and psychotherapy: is there a connection?
Both have there origins in the western mystery religions and dramas of Greco Roman culture. Both have a preponderance of role playing, and exploration of those roles, on the part of both the client and the psychotherapist.
In this episode actor, musician, and counselor, Scott Sciaffo, MA, NCC, offers his opinions on this, and other topics. Scott is best known for his performance as the Chewlies Gum rep in the 1994, independent film, “Clerks.” He is also the author of autobiographical book, “Vicious Dogs Attack me in Sleepless Nights of Summer,” which is currently available on Audible and Amazon.
Dr. Hoye and Scott discuss their own connections (Dr. Hoye has worked with Scott on independent film projects), and their own trajectory as actors and psychotherapists. Scott also discusses his struggle with addiction, and how his own therapy ultimately led to him becoming a counselor.
