I don’t think it’s fair to categorize the results of the Alexandria primary as a clear endorsement of the notion that Zoning for Housing is necessary to generate affordable housing. First, John Taylor Chapman won more votes than any of the city council candidates endorsed by YIMBY. Second, Charlotte Scherer, who came in seventh, has always advocated for zoning policies that achieve the stated objectives. She read this study and spoke with experts and determined that $2 million duplexes would not do this.
