"Dannelle Walker Whiteside served as Interim President (2020-2021) and Vice President for Legal Affairs (present) at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. She has worked extensively in the areas of education law & policy & has dedicated her career to promoting equal access to education.
Ms. Whiteside previously served as General Attorney for the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, in Philadelphia, PA where she reviewed, evaluated, & resolved complex & sensitive cases ranging from sexual violence to disability discrimination, in both the elementary & postsecondary contexts. She has also served as General Counsel for the Tennessee State Board of Education & District Policy Advisor for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.
A native Nashvillian, Ms. Whiteside is active in many organizations throughout her community, serving as Past President of the Napier-Looby Bar Association & former Troop Leader for Girl Scouts of West End Middle School. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Ms. Whiteside has been featured in The Tennessean‘s “Next Up”, a section highlighting the contributions of leaders under 35 in Middle Tennessee. She was also selected by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as one of Nashville’s Top 30 Under 30; named one of the Nation’s Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40 by the National Bar Association and IMPACT; & won the Nashville Emerging Leader Award in Education given by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce & YP Nashville."
