Other Strong Beer
-Beers of any style intentionally brewed with higher alcohol content than defined within that style’s guidelines are categorized as Other Strong Beer.
-These beers should achieve a balance between the style's characteristics and the additional alcohol.
-Color, Clarity, Aroma, Hop Aroma/Bitterness and Body according to Style
-ABV – generally 8% +
-Beara Brewing Co. – we brew a strong ale called Mighty (8% ABV) and add some local NH Maple Syrup to balance out alcohol – we also barrel aged it in Jim Beam barrels – Bourbon Oaked Mighty - came out delicious
-Subcategory: American-Style Imperial Porter
-Color: Black
-Clarity: Opaque
-Malt Aroma & Flavor – No roast barley or strong burnt/black malt character should be perceived. Medium malt, caramel and cocoa sweetness should be present.
-Hop Aroma and Flavor and Bitterness - (IBU) 35-50 - Low to medium-high
-Body: Full
-ABV: 7.0%-12.0%
-Subcategory: American-Style Wheat Wine Ale
-This style is brewed with at least 50% wheat malt.
-Color: Gold to black
-Clarity: Chill haze is acceptable at low temperatures
-Malt Aroma – Bread, wheat, honey and/or caramel malt aromas and flavors are often
present.
-Hop Aroma and Flavor and Bitterness - (IBU) 45-85– Medium to medium-high
-Body: Full
-ABV: 8.5%-12.2%
-Glassware for Other Strong Beer: Belgian style glass, Snifter or Goblet/Chalice
