As summer winds down and we reflect on road trips and seasonal adventures, we turn our attention to one of America's most iconic highways—Route 66. Often called the 'Main Street of America,' Route 66 is steeped in history and nostalgia. But beyond the classic Americana and scenic landscapes lies a richer, more complex story.

In this episode, I was honored to welcome Candacy Taylor, an award-winning author, photographer, and cultural documentarian, to dive deep into the true essence of Route 66. Candacy's groundbreaking work, Overground Railroad: The Green Book and the Roots of Black Travel in America, sheds light on the vital and often overlooked narratives of marginalized communities that shaped and were shaped by this legendary highway.

Join us as we explore the history of Route 66, the experiences of Black travelers who navigated it, and the thriving communities that brought vibrancy to the route. We discuss the Route's preservation, the significance of the Green Book, and the cultural legacy that continues to influence travelers today.
