After slowing things down a touch with second single 'Senses' from their self-titled debut album, Adelaide hard rock outfit Audio Reign upped the ante once more with the recent release...
show more"As far as the song lyric-wise..." measured guitarist and vocalist Jake Fleming, "It's pretty self explanatory I think. It's a metaphor for all those vices we may have from alcohol to drugs to gambling - it could be anything - but the point is it all seems fantastic but the higher the high, the harder the fall. It's about being drawn into those vices and realising it's not all fantastic and you always have to come down at some stage. As far as the video goes, a good friend of mine loves the song and he asked if he could do the film clip for it and I said sure, why not (laughs). With 'Betrayal' it was a lot of work for us with all of the saucier things like getting the cathedral and all the work that went into making the clip, whereas I thought with this one my friend is a big fan of the 80s and early 90s Aussie rock clips and I knew if I put it in his hands he would treat the song how he sees it because he loves the song and has heard it so many times but he also has a feel for it that we might not put on it. If you watch 'Pill' compared to 'Betrayal' you'll see it's a whole different type of clip; a bit more basic and a bit more freaky in a way too. Our guitarist describes it as a little like watching a weird version of Natural Born Killers (laughs)".
In the full interview Jake discusses the benefits of releasing singles that show different sides of a bands musical psyche, the diversity in tracks on the album, the Adelaide music scene and the difficulties faced in coming from one of the countries smaller regions, supporting Skillet and what the band learnt from the experience, playing quality shows with bigger production less frequently as opposed to saturating the market, tonights showcase performance and more.
