Today’s topic on Postgirl’s Recordings is the band “Stories”. They were an early 1970’s rock and pop music band based in New York. They had a number 1 hit with a cover of Hot Chocolate’s song “Brother Louie” song.
Brother Louie a song about an interracial love affair between a white man and a black woman, and the subsequent disowning of the man by his parents because of it. The title was written and sung by Errol Brown and Tony Wilson of the group Hot Chocolate, and was a No. 7 hit in the UK Singles Chart for the band in 1973.
"Brother Louie" was covered by the American band Stories (featuring singer Ian Lloyd) about six months after Hot Chocolate's UK hit. The Stories version reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and sold a million plus copies to earn a gold disk.
I’m Gail Nobles, and you’re listening to Postgirl’s Recordings. Now I’m going to let you hear Alan Patterson’s interview with lead singer Ian Lloyd. It’s not a recent interview, but you’re going to hear about Louie and more. Enjoy. ….
