show moreIn this Sixth episode we are joined by Paul Brennan from the Celtic Quick News to cover the period 1950 to 1960. With World War Two over, Scotland wasn't the land of milk and honey as promised, but a country still struggling with rebuilding and rationing. Celtic were rebuilding too and enjoyed a relatively successful period by clinching a double, the Coronation Cup and destroying Rangers 7-1 in the League Cup final of 1957. At first glance this sounds like success but the 1950's promised so much more and the trophy haul was a poor reflection on a team with great talent yet poor leadership.
Off the pitch the Club were faced with some of its biggest challenges since its birth in 1887 as the fundamentals of the club's identity came under attack from the authorities. Things came to breaking point and a stand had to be made and thankfully for once the hierarchy of the Club stuck to their principals and stood firm. Despite these distractions the building blocks were being laid for a team that would go onto better things in the years to come. A man named Stein is signed and the blueprint for success was starting to be drawn up.
There is also the History of the Stadium, History of the Celtic Shirt, interviews with players of the time, all your Fan Stories, Confessions and much, much more.
As our Sixth guest, Paul nominates The CLIC Sargent Children's Cancer organization as the nominated charity and you can learn more about them at http://www.clicsargent.org.uk/
