On Monday, Boris Johnson outlined a new COVID alert system for England aimed at slowing the spread of the virus in hotspot areas.

The prime minister briefed the nation once again on his plan, hours after the government’s scientists explained the data behind the decision.

Documents published after Mr Johnson was flanked by his chancellor and England’s chief medical officer in Downing Street, then revealed a ‘circuit breaker’ lockdown for the country had been recommended to ministers by scientists.

So is the three-tier approach the right one? And will it be enough to stave off a second COVID crisis here?

Pub owner Matthew Farrell in Liverpool talks to the Sky News Daily podcast about the impact on his business and personal life.

Plus, Dermot Murnaghan is joined by Sky’s Inzamam Rashid in Liverpool and virus expert, Dr Ria Lina to take a closer look at the new measures and discuss the politics as well as the ‘science’.
