When talking with KTLA 5's Courtney Friel, Macias gave a tearful answer about his mother. She was off-camera to give him a hug afterwards.

When you’re a kid, your mommy is your world. But as you grow up, you start to grow apart and find your own path. But deep down inside, you’ll always be attached to your mother. It’s human nature.
And that has never been more apparent than when KTLA reporter Courtney Friel asked incoming Pre-K student Andrew Macias if he’ll miss his mother while at school.
At first he proudly declared “No,” and laughed, likely thinking, “I got this. I’ma be my own lil man!”
And then he cried, realizing he can’t fight the truth: He’s definitely gonna miss his mommy.
