In this episode, Adrianne welcomes Dr. Iman Abuzeid, CEO and co-founder of Incredible Health, a career marketplace for connecting hospitals to nursing talent.

They cover a variety of topics including the worsening nursing shortage in which we are expected to be 1 million nurses short by 2024, hiring demand and the problems with the antiquated system nurses use to apply to jobs, and how COVID-19 is affecting nurses. Incredible Health is seeing a 10-15% increase in demand from hospitals on their platform looking to hire, this is specifically occurring in urban areas like SF and NYC where there are large clusters of COVID-19 outbreaks.

Incredible Health recently announced results from the platform’s study of COVID-19’s impact on the nursing landscape and hospitals. Incredible Health collected data from nurses and mined its own proprietary data for hiring trends across hospitals during March and April. The full survey report is attached and you can view it here. Top findings include:

Almost two-thirds (62%) of nurse respondents said their facility does not have the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to properly protect themselves from COVID-19

A strong majority of nurses (59%) said they do not feel adequately supported by their facility to deal with the added stress of COVID-19

Only 2% of nurse respondents said their facility was “very prepared” to deal with COVID-19

Twice as many emergency department (ED) nurses were hired on Incredible Health in March compared to January and February, and 50% more ICU nurses were hired during that same timeframe, compared to roles in other departments such as the operating room (OR) and labor and delivery (L&D)

Speed to hire increased by 24%, going from 25 days in January and February to 19 days in March because of the immediate need for ED and ICU nurses. The national average is 90 days to hire; whereas Incredible Health generally guarantees clients speed to hire in under 30 days.

In addition to discussing the company’s platform in which hospitals “shop” for nurses, they discuss how they recently launched a first-of-its-kind, free program that offers free continuing education to help all nurses obtain or renew licenses required to practice.
