I giorni di Rhaenyra sul trono sembrano essere contati. Il suo consorte e più grande stratega è morto, e ha fatto imprigionare il suo Primo Cavaliere nelle celle nere, il che provoca un abbandono di massa alla sua causa da parte degli uomini giurati ai Velaryon. In più, losche figure cominciano ad emergere dalle ombre, facendo vacillare la sua posizione. Intanto, nell'Altopiano, l'esercito verde si prepara a marciare sulla capitale, ma sembra essere destinato a trovarsi davanti una cattiva sorpresa. Ad una Rhaenyra distrutta dal dolore, desiderosa di tornare a Dragonstone, la sua casa, dove pensa di trovare conforto, attende lo stesso.
