Welcome to Day 1627 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomTake The Shot – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom...
show moreToday’s quote is from Wayne Gretzky, and it is: 100% of the shots you don't take don't go in.
Take The Shot
Wayne Douglas Gretzky is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and former head coach. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League for four teams from 1979 to 1999.
Every superlative has been used, many strung together, to describe the otherwordly talent of Wayne Gretzky, who commonly is regarded as the greatest hockey player ever.
Based purely on statistics, there is no argument -- the man is without peer, nor will he have one in the foreseeable future. He owns many records from the ranks of peewee hockey to the NHL, sitting atop every meaningful offensive category, often miles ahead of the players ranked second.
Why did I take the time to describe Wayne Gretzky as I did? Because he knew what it takes to succeed in hockey and life. Wayne knew firsthand that if he did not take a hockey shot attempting to score, it would be 100% certain that he would not score. I am sure there were hundreds of times where it was nearly impossible to make the score, but that never stopped Wayne from attempting the shot. That is why he is the indisputable champion of professional hockey.
So it is with everything that we attempt in life. If we are afraid to try for fear we will not succeed, then it is 100% certain that we will not succeed. It is only when we take a risk, when we expose ourselves to criticism, when we are willing to try, even if there is a chance for failure, will we ever know the thrill of victory. We need to stop procrastinating. We need to break the cycle of getting ready to get ready. We need to boldly go, where no one has gone before. When we do our part to succeed based on our God-given talents and abilities, we can trust God to provide us with the wisdom needed to take the shots, even when not every attempt will result in success. You may never fully achieve the success you desire, but you will succeed by confidently moving forward as you continue trying.

So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
