Clarkisha Kent is a fat, Black, dark-skinned, queer woman trying to make her way in a society obsessed with heteronormativity. As a first-generation Nigerian-American facing a myriad of mental health issues and intergenerational trauma, Kent often talks about how at times her body felt like a cosmic punishment, and that in the face of body dysmorphia, homophobia, anti-Blackness, and respectability politics, the pursuit of “high self-esteem” seemed oxymoronic.
Clarkisha was a great guest on Life Well lived by Omobola Stephen as she shared her personal life experience on outsmarting fatphobia and colorism with host,Omobola Stephen.
