Host Liz Lawless and Living Legend Actor Burton “Bubba” Gillam will talk wildcats, boxing, firefighting, movies, golf, and more on Wild West Diversity this week.
Gilliam from Dallas was a Wildcat, then a member of the Coast Guard Boxing Team, where he won 201 of 217 fights. He remained in boxing for decades, working as a referee after retiring from the ring. Gilliam was a firefighter who went to an open casting call and was hired to be Floyd, the Desk Clerk in his first film, Paper Moon with Ryan and Tatum O’Neal. He then received a call that changed his life.
He went on to appear in 52 movies, including popular films like Blazing Saddles, Back to the Future Part III, Honeymoon in Vegas, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Farewell, My Lovely, Fletch, Gator, and many more. His television credits include 175 shows, including Alice, Charlie’s Angels, The A-Team, The Dukes of Hazzard, The Fall Guy, and a regular role on Evening Shade.
Gilliam also appeared in over 200 commercials and has participated in hundreds of charity golf classics and events while continuing to entertain people wherever he goes. He was inducted into the Woodrow Wilson High School Hall of Fame in 2004. He and his wife Susan live in North Texas, and he has two children and four grandchildren (one a former American World Champion Gymnast).
