Edward Fairburn uses traditional materials such as ink, paint and pencil for his portraits. His working technique is also peculiar, as the artist begins by closely observing the cartographic layout of the map, trying to find in the thicket of streets, parks, rivers some shapes that suggest to him the future composition. Only then, after meticulous cartographic studies, does he make gradual changes to the contours, roads and other patterns found on the map. These changes allow him to bring out the human form, which will be the coexistence of figure and landscape. Most often this form is a portrait, made meticulously and with a great sense of beauty.
