The public health impact of ENDS use is complex, with potential benefits for smoking cessation among current smokers and risks such as nicotine addiction and chemical exposure for non-smokers. While current evidence suggests a net positive public health effect for smokers who switch to ENDS, long-term impacts are still uncertain.
Odds & ENDS is an educational podcast series created by the VISN 1 Tobacco Treatment Program to help keep clinicians informed on electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). The series covers the latest research and clinical recommendations on e-cigarettes, vaping, and other emerging nicotine products. Episodes provide overviews of ENDS components, regulations, prevalence, health risks, and considerations for tobacco cessation. The goal is to prepare VA providers to address patient questions and offer evidence-based guidance on these rapidly evolving products. Continuing education is provided for VA employees in partnership with VA Northeast Consortia (VANEC).
Acknowledgments: Odds & ENDS with Dr. Jonathan K. Lee and Dr. Ariel Laudermith is brought to you by VISN 1 Tobacco Treatment and the VISN 1 Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) through a grant awarded by Pfizer. Research and science writing by Dr. Kerry Kinney. We thank Dr. Alexandria Lindvig-Springborn and Dr. Sophie Schuyler for their input on the development and conceptualization of this learning series. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our producer, Patrick Kirby. We thank the team at Billerica Access TV, whose facilities and team were crucial in hosting and helping us piece together this learning series. Continuing education is made possible through support of Cathy Tenerowicz, MBA from VISN 1 Education, and Jason Trojnar from VA Northeast Consortia (VANEC). Design by Beldesign.
