In this episode we talk to Coach Kennedy Kereama, Head Coach of the Bendigo Spirit.
At the close of Round 13 the Spirit are one of the top 5 teams in contention for a playoff berth. It’s a tight WNBL season with not much separating the top 5 teams, and as the inevitable upsets and injuries tip the balance in the run up to the playoffs, Coach Kennedy takes the approach of ‘one game at a time’.
As one of the most experienced leadership groups of any of the WNBL teams, he encourages an all-team approach where ‘everybody brings something to the table’.
We’re grateful that Coach Kennedy takes a moment to relfect on the season, sharing some of his hard earned lessons on his journey from NZ to regional Vic and the WNBL, coaching in the often financially fragile women’s leagues, including the NZ National women’s team the Tall Ferns and the WNBL’s first Kiwi team.
He talks of his respect for fellow WNBL coaches and the often lonely road they share at the elite level, as well as the key people on his coaching journey that has shaped his own coaching style that’s reflected in the Spirit’s identity.
Enjoy!
