In Ep23 we chat with the doyenne of Sydney Basketball Lorraine Landon. A true national treasure she created history in 1989 by becoming the manager of both the Sydney Kings and the Sydney Flames - the first woman to hold that position for the NBL and WNBL at the same time.
Lorraine has been at the centre of Australian basketball, and particularly women’s basketball, as the team manager for the Opals at their first Olympics in 1984, playing a key role in the 2000 Olympics and Paralympics basketball competition, chair of the FIBA Women’s Commission and much more.
Landon shares a unique insight into the evolution of the Australian Women's Basketball team The Opals, with wonderful anecdotes of one of the most formidable Australian teams in any sport.
From playing at the Bankstown Bruins to being behind much of the growth of Basketball in Australia Lorraine is a standout in the sport and it’s an honour to have her as our guest.
Accolades: Lorraine Landon has been awarded an Order of Australia in 2011, the IOC Golden Rings 2000, FIBA Merit Award 2000, the IOC Women in Sport Award 2004, inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, Australian Basketball Hall of Fame and is also a Life Member of the WNBL, Basketball NSW and Bankstown.
