It is a pleasure to welcome singer-songwriter KANDLE to The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.

The British Columbia-born singer-songwriter has been surrounded by music for her whole life. Neil Osborne is the vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the popular Canadian rock band 54-40 and hung out backstage at the band’s various bands and recording sessions. She also formed the Blue Violets with her sister, Coral, and friend and former Lillix member Louise Burns.

KANDLE’s debut solo album, Flames, featured songs that dealt with serious topics such as mental health, sexual assault, and eating disorders. For her efforts, she received a Juno nomination and a Prism Prize Award. Throughout her career, KANDLE worked with a plethora of Canada’s renowned songwriters, including Sam Roberts, Coeur de Pirate, and Martin “Youth” Glover. She also received coverage from many media outlets such as American Songwriter, Bizarre Magazine, and Fingers on Bast.

On May 28, KANDLE will release Set the Fire. The album is getting buzz as she became one of the first independent female artists to make the cover of Spotify’s “Ready to Rock” playlist. The music video of “Honey Trap,” one of her singles off the highly anticipated album, features both KANDLE’s all-female band: The Wiccs, and actor Keenan Tracey (Bates Motel and The 100). Also, ‘Lock and Load,” another one of Set the Fire’s singles’ music videos, was nominated for a Canadian Independent Video Award.

In this edition of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, KANDLE shared the stories behind some of her songs, including “Honey Trap,” “Misty Morning,” and “Demon,” her most streamed song on Spotify. She also spoke about overcoming obstacles that she faced in her career in the recording industry.
