Last night we looked at the importance of storytelling as a skill in becoming an outstanding speaker. Tonight I want to tell you a few stories and then have a look at how I use them in my speeches. Often when I'm running workshops or delivering a keynote on this topic, people tell me that they just don't have any interesting stories. I don't agree.

I attended a zoom meeting this morning with about 20 other speakers, the theme of which was to share stories about our some of our successes in life. Some of those stories were about love at first sight, some were about bringing up children, some were anecdotes from work, some were about facing health challenges. Everyone told engaging stories and most of those stories were not from speeches. They were just stories from life - but stories that could all be used in speeches.

So tonight I am going to tell you abut 1969 - I know - Summer of 69 from Bryan Adams - I really was one of the best years of my life. It was a year when my life changed direction - I didn't know it them - It"s only looking back that I realise what a momentous year it was. I hope it inspires you to look back at your life and find stories that can inspire and entertain others.
