This is the second programme on Voice. Yesterday I talked about clarity, today I want to explore vocal variety. The death of any speech, especially if you are speaking online, is monotone. And that is such an easy trap to fall into. If you are nervous and anxious about delivering your speech, the chances are that the reason for that is FEAR - fear of making a fool of yourself, fear of ridicule, fear of humiliation, fear of shame.

Shame is in my view our greatest fear of all - and the anxiety that comes with this fear sucks the life out of speeches, it removes drama and humour, turns a colourful speech grey. So today I am going to look at the elements of vocal variety. Things you can do to add life to your speech.

However remember that vocal variety is a set of performance tools that you can use to polish a speech. If there is no clear Purpose to your speech, it does not draw on your Experience, it fails to engage your Passions and lacks engaging stories - no amount of performance polishing is going to make it a great speech.
