Casey Herd Founder of Ballet Rising a previous dancer with American Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the Dutch National Ballet. Recently retired in 2016 and has been spending his time traveling the world, exposing the potential future of a global ballet community that is inclusive and that incorporates the efforts of everyone. Casey shares, "I want to show communities that are hard to reach that the current leaders of the ballet world care about their work, and I want to break down old-fashioned perceptions of ballet as exclusive or elitist. I want to help build a culture of artists who speak from a perspective of unity and mutual respect about the importance of art and freedom of expression." It was a really rewarding conversation to share with Casey about the current mental health of the ballet industry and the personal steps he is taking to address them and create an inclusive community.
