In ancient times, before we had invented printing, when few people could read or write, information travelled largely by word or mouth. The problem with word or mouth is that we don't have great memories, so information passed from one person to another is often changed. It's a game often played in personal development courses where a message is passed around the room from person to person and the message at the end is often vastly different to the original message.

The way to make sure that information is passed on more accurately is to embed the information into a story. One of the oldest surviving books today, still in current use, is or course the Bible and that is packed with stories. Fairy stories and myths throughout time survive because they are memorable.

So if you want your speech to be remembered you have to learn the art of storytelling and that is my focus today. It's a big topic, so today I am going to introduce you to the art or storytelling and we will be picking this up again in future broadcasts.
