show moreOriginally from Kentucky, Johnnie’s life change when his family moved to New York City. Various forms of arts and entertainment surrounded him. He started a blog to share his experiences with just his friends and family members to thousands of readers. His storytelling passion continued to grow once he picked up a guitar and began his path to become a musician.
After moving to Nashville, Johnnie Mikel began to incorporate the lessons he learned in the Big Apple and began working the songwriters’ circuit. He worked with a plethora of music icons that included Damon Sharpe, Lindy Robbins, Nash Overstreet, the Ready Set, and Tommy Lee. He also opened for top touring artists.
In addition to his music endeavors, Johnnie started the One Word Foundation. It all began after he wrote his 2016 song: “One.” While it initially allowed him to perform at various Boys & Girls Clubs, it evolved into something bigger. The One Word Foundation has worked with multiple organizations to tackle animal rights, education, homelessness, and hunger.
In this edition of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Johnnie Mikel talked about his experience with COVID-19 and previewed his upcoming sophomore album: Purgatory.
