Are you trying to get pregnant? In part 2 of our 2-part series, Dr. Emily talks all about how you can use natural family planning for achieving pregnancy. I so wish I was using natural family planning when I was trying to have my daughter. It has definitely helped me to get pregnant again to know exactly when my ovulation day is coming and when I am ovulating. Although using NFP is not 100% effective, if you are trying to get pregnant, this is one tool you can use to increase your chances of having that baby you want.
Here are the take-ways:
-Trying to get pregnant means more than just looking at the date your period came and counting out days on the calendar
-A woman can technically only get pregnant 6 days each cycle
-If you are stressed about trying to conceive, your brain can actually delay ovulation because of the stress
-The overall probability of conception based on different models of estimating: after 1 cycle is 28-36%, after 3 cycles is 56-68% and after 6 cycles is 74-88%; although, these probabilities can decrease with increased age
-There are multiple studies that have shown that various methods of natural family planning can help women achieve pregnancy
-Learning NFP can help you know your natural fertility signs, know what days to try to conceive, keep you and your partner on the same page, help you see if you are ovulating at all, and/or help you see if you have healthy hormones
-Learning NFP can NOT fix any underlying anatomical or hormonal issues
-Advocate for yourself and work with a physician or practitioner who will work with you and your body
