show moreIn this podcast, we discuss Patricia Riggen's 2025 action film “G20”, starring Viola Davis as a US President facing a terrorist attack during a G20 summit in Cape Town.
We highlight the plot, which involves the president, a former military veteran, using her skills to protect hostages and prevent an economic collapse. However, we find the film derivative and over the top, noting its strong similarities to "Olympus Has Fallen" (USA 2013) and criticize its implausible action sequences and clichéd plot elements, ultimately deeming it a forgettable popcorn flick despite Viola Davis's performance.
Plot:
In the action-thriller "G20" (2025), directed by Patricia Riggen, U.S. President Danielle Sutton (Viola Davis), a former Army veteran, faces a terrorist siege at the G20 summit in Cape Town. Led by mercenary Edward Rutledge (Antony Starr), the attackers take world leaders hostage. Sutton, aided by Secret Service agent Manny Ruiz (Ramón Rodríguez), uses her military skills to protect her family, save global leaders, and thwart a cryptocurrency-driven economic collapse.
