Dark and brooding.... words that are overused... it must get tiresome, especially when you're a very talented person and you're constantly aligned or misaligned with everyone else in a certain genre.

My conversation with James Hammontree of Oklahoma City's Black Magnet was a real treat, because the man is a reality check, charging straight into the blind eye of an industrial metal storm cell.

Black Magnet's new release, Body Prophecy, is a squirmy, dark hearted, mind melt that pushes the listener through a death metal, rust tinged trap door, straight into an old school belt sander. It screams the best parts of yesterday with the modern levels and ferocity of today's angst and hopelessness.

It's brilliant, mostly because the man who created it is so relentlessly in pursuit of the truthful human experience, whatever that is.
