For October 12, 2024, in the Los Angeles area, the fishing scene is looking promising. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect:

**Tidal Report:**
The tides for today are favorable, with a high tide at around 8:30 AM and a low tide at 2:30 PM. These tidal shifts often trigger fish activity, especially in the surf and nearshore areas.

**Weather:**
The weather is expected to be partly cloudy with a gentle breeze of about 11 knots from the northwest. Water temperatures are still warm, making it an ideal time for a variety of species.

**Sunrise and Sunset:**
Sunrise is at 6:57 AM, and sunset will be at 6:04 PM, giving you ample daylight to hit your favorite spots.

**Fish Activity:**
Yesterday saw a strong bite for several species. In the South Bay, from Santa Monica to Palos Verdes, corbina, yellowfin croaker, halibut, and striped bass were all active. The Venice, Balona Creek, and Dockweiler areas were particularly hot for stripers, with many caught on cut anchovy and hardbaits. Redondo and Torrance beaches yielded smaller corbina and larger yellowfin croakers, mostly taken on sand crabs.

**Fish Caught:**
In the Santa Barbara and Ventura areas, halibut and barred surfperch were prominent catches. Halibut were biting well on hard baits like BattleStar and Lucky Craft, as well as 6-inch white swimbaits, especially around Goleta Beach and the East Beach Bath House. Barred surfperch up to 13 inches were caught on motor-oil grubs and Honey Badger Baits in the Ventura coast.

**Best Lures and Bait:**
For stripers, cut anchovy and hardbaits are working well. For halibut, hard baits and 6-inch white swimbaits are recommended. Sand crabs are still effective for corbina and yellowfin croakers, especially on beaches with stretches of sand. Motor-oil grubs and Honey Badger Baits are ideal for barred surfperch.

**Hot Spots:**
- **Santa Monica to Palos Verdes:** This stretch is hot for corbina, yellowfin croaker, halibut, and striped bass.
- **Goleta Beach and East Beach Bath House:** These areas are good for halibut, especially if you're using hard baits and swimbaits.
- **Ventura Coast:** Look for barred surfperch here, using motor-oil grubs and Honey Badger Baits.

With the right gear and knowledge of the tides, you should have a productive day on the water in the Los Angeles area. Good luck
