show moreLOS ANGELES, CA. February 21, 2023—Governor Tom, a pseudonym of actor/writer/musician Tom Wood, has announced his debut show, “TWO Badass-Singer-Songwriter STUDS, Two Guitars, One Microphone.” The show will be at Jeweled Universe, 1017 Mission Street, South Pasadena, 91030 on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 626-399-0066 or 818-421-1993. Tom, who spent his childhood in South Pasadena, and his teenage years in Pasadena, is returning to his roots for his debut performance, sharing the stage with popular indie folk artist, Dana Cooper. “Dana is earning a lot of accolades with his latest CD tour, and I’ve got a stack of new, original music to share,” Tom says. “Like my first time skateboarding down Camino Del Sol at 13, or soloing at Ambassador Auditorium as a Blair Highschooler, this show is gonna be memorable.”
Governor Tom is a musical character created by Tom for a self-penned television project showcasing new music. His dynamic, indie folk, genre-bending style weaves truthiness and wit with unapologetic, heartfelt poignancy. His melodic explorations travel paths and byways like those of Andrew Bird, Leonard Cohen, and Sting. His first two singles, “A Man with a Hat” and “Living Wild,” landed on Riot Radio’s The Indie Hour Jazz Playlist, broadcasting from Durham College in Ontario, Canada. Following the show in March, Tom will release his final single, “Public Eye,” before releasing his debut EP this spring. Creating music has been “an organic experience, and I believe that’s part of its charm.”
Performing is not new to Tom. In his youth, he performed in neighborhood garage shows and later in countless professional musicals and revues. He then dove into a full-time acting career, known worldwide for his performances in The Fugitive, U.S. Marshals, Apollo 13, Ulee’s Gold, and Under Siege. After taking a hiatus from the high demands of the acting profession, he shifted his focus back to music while raising his four sons. In 2020, he began dedicating his time to performing at open mic nights and refining his melodies, lyrics, and style.
The show at Jeweled Universe is the beginning of a busy year for Tom. Thick in completing final mixes for his EP, Tom’s excited to find new roads to explore musically and share his music publicly. “It’s ideal to live with work and family creatively in balance. As a singer-songwriter, I can speak from my heart, assured of my intent.” Tom is now achieving his most revered goal: to write, create from a blank page, and share the results with the world. “A stage, a live audience, laughter, focus, pathos…nothing beats performing live. I’m grateful.”
