This is the Hail Mary Podcast. A supplement to the upcoming film, where we dive a little deeper into the story of Balaram Stack and the people who have helped...
show more'Hail Mary' is the merge of a documentary biopic and a traditional surf film about unlikely rise of one of New York's greatest surfers, Balaram Stack. The Film pays homage to Balaram’s roots and the one main guiding force in his life. His mother, Mary. The film illustrates the beautiful relationship between the two, and shows the important bond that helped shape Balaram into becoming the incredible surfer he is today. Multi-award winning independent filmmaker, Ben Gulliver takes us on a beautiful cinematic journey that is Balaram’s life.
On the first episode, in order to know who Balaram is, we need to know where he came from and that story starts way before Balaram was born. It starts in the mid 70’s where Mary Stack, as a single mother had just moved to Brooklyn with a little toddler named Red, Balaram’s oldest brother. It’s there, in a tiny apartment, that you can pinpoint as the start of this journey. Mary sat with filmmaker Ben Gulliver, going through old photos. This is where we pick up her story...
