show moreWeb Summit 2023 is a virtual retreat hosted by Third Wave Feminism (3WF) and organized by NNWx. This summit is sponsored by the Angela King Foundation (AKF) and will be held from March 24-26. This event is designed to bring together activists, scholars, and community leaders to discuss the systemic oppression of marginalized communities and how to move forward.
Day 1 - Systemic Oppression (Policies and Law): Systemic oppression is the systematic and institutionalized discrimination of a group of people based on their race, gender, religion, or other social categories. Systemic oppression manifests itself in various forms, including laws, policies, and practices that limit the rights and opportunities of particular groups of people. For example, laws that criminalize certain behaviors, such as drug possession, disproportionately affect people of color, while policies that limit access to education or healthcare disproportionately affect women and people of lower socioeconomic status. Systemic oppression also manifests itself in the form of cultural norms and stereotypes that limit the potential of particular groups of people.
Day 2 - RJ - Reproductive Justice and Intersectionalism: Reproductive justice is a framework that seeks to address the intersectional nature of oppression, particularly in regard to reproductive health and rights. It is an intersectional approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of gender, race, class, sexuality, and other social identities in the fight for reproductive freedom. Reproductive justice not only seeks to ensure that all people have access to the resources and information they need to make informed decisions about their reproductive health but also to challenge the systemic oppression that limits the reproductive rights of certain groups of people.
Day 3 - What's Next Where Do We Go From Here: In order to move forward, we must continue to challenge the systemic oppression that exists in our society. This means working to dismantle oppressive laws, policies, and practices that limit the rights and opportunities of certain groups of people. We must also continue to educate ourselves and others about the intersectional nature of oppression and the importance of reproductive justice. Finally, we must continue to advocate for the rights of all people, regardless of their race, gender, religion, or other social categories. Only then can we create a more equitable and just society for all.
This year’s theme invites participants to inhabit spaces of love, inspiration, and hope alongside uncertainty as we shift our minds toward an uncertain yet improvable future. As we move toward hope and a better tomorrow we have high expectations of mapping out inclusive societal structures that we all need to improve our frameworks to make institutionalism equitable. We have invited the top experts in their fields to bridge these gaps. Cross-movement solidarities and collective approaches to social change will lead the foreground toward a more intersectional-feminist lens.
Drawing on the foundational work of feminists and intersectionalism and other proponents of radical movements of hope, we will investigate how to end Systemic Oppression (policies and law), what is Reproductive Justice, and finally What's Next, and Where We Go From Here.
The Web Summit 2023 is a great opportunity for activists, scholars, and community leaders to come together and discuss the systemic oppression of marginalized communities and how to move forward. This event will allow participants to share their ideas and discuss potential solutions for creating a more equitable and inclusive society.
Please join us in bringing forth a better tomorrow.
