As the Summer Olympics from Paris continue to satisfy our athletic appetite, our culinary appetite has made us curious about the wonderful food from France. A baguette is a tasty bread that has satisfied the hunger of many for centuries. The ingredients in the bread consist of flour, water, yeast and salt. Despite being high in calories and carbohydrates, Baguettes contain a moderate amount of fiber that contributes to digestive health, promoting feelings of fullness, and maintaining a healthy weight. Baguettes contain several B vitamins, including thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), and niacin (B3). These vitamins play key roles in energy production and the functioning of the nervous system. In addition, baguettes contain prebiotics which are good for gut bacteria, folic acid which helps in strengthening your immune system and growing red blood cells, and protein which helps in building muscle. Because of its cultural significance, baguettes have been included on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and French Ministry of Culture's National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage lists. So, while you’re watching the Olympics and are in the mood for a meal or snack make sure you indulge in an irresistible bread known as a baguette.
