Dean Lloyd is the perfect example of someone who can turn their life around if given the chance. After having served a prison sentence, he now helps men who have been released from prison turn their life around that through consulting, employment, preparation, and getting them connected to the community.
Dean has lived and worked amongst the most privileged and most discriminated in our society. From the heights of property and prestige to the depth of hell battling substance abuse. He's evidence that when supported appropriately people are able to change.
I’m excited to interview Dean on my podcast as he knows what is needed to help someone with a prison record into sustainable employment.
Dean is currently the founder of Lloyd Criminal Consulting Co and is on a journey to provide Just & equitable access to Systemic change. Collaboratively building and designing a new framework, for Significant Social Impact.
He was kind enough to share his wealth of knowledge which I have no doubt will be useful for many people who help ex-offenders into work, as well as any person listening with a prison record.
Some of the topics we covered on the full podcast:
1. Dean’s story and how he ended up in prison.
2. How he was able to find success after his release.
3. Type of resilience, skills, and attributes people in prison build.
4.what advice he gives to an employment consultant who has someone on their caseload with a prison record.
5. Does he believe that people who are addicts should end up in the prison system?
6. Why the most difficult day for people in prison is the day that they get released.
7. His top 3 tips that he would give to somebody that has been released? Or somebody with a prison record that is struggling to find a job.
8.What industries usually hire people with prison records.
9. Why hiring someone with a prison record is better and safer for society.
