James Robertson entered Florida’s prison system as a teenager and spent decades accumulating additional time for violence, weapons offenses, and attempted escapes. After years in close management, Robertson became convinced that life on death row would be preferable. In 2008, he put a chilling plan into motion, strangling his cellmate, Frank Hart, with a garrote made from socks—just eight days before Hart was scheduled to be released. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the life and crimes of James Robertson. Robertson openly admitted the murder was premeditated and made it clear that he had a specific reason for committing it. His story raises disturbing questions about decades of incarceration, prolonged isolation, violence behind bars, and the extraordinary lengths one prisoner was willing to go to change the circumstances of his confinement.
