Josué 16:9-10:
Además, había ciudades que fueron apartadas para los hijos de Efraín en medio de la heredad de los hijos de Manasés, todas esas ciudades con sus aldeas. Sin embargo, ellos no echaron a los cananeos que habitaban en Gezer. Así que los cananeos han habitado en medio de los de Efraín hasta el día de hoy, pero han sido sometidos a tributo laboral.

Josué 17:14-18:

Después los hijos de José hablaron a Josué diciendo: —¿Por qué nos has dado en posesión una sola suerte y una sola parte, siendo nosotros un pueblo numeroso al que el SEÑOR ha bendecido hasta ahora?
Josué les respondió: —Si son un pueblo numeroso, vayan al bosque y deforesten para ustedes la tierra de los ferezeos y de los refaítas, ya que la región montañosa de Efraín es demasiado estrecha para ustedes.
Los hijos de José dijeron: —No nos bastará a nosotros esa región montañosa. Además, todos los cananeos que habitan en la tierra del valle tienen carros de hierro, tanto los que están en Bet-seán y sus aldeas, como los que están en el valle de Jezreel.
Entonces Josué respondió a la casa de José, a Efraín y a Manasés, diciendo: —Ustedes son un pueblo numeroso y tienen mucha fuerza. No tendrán solo una parte, sino que la región montañosa será suya. Puesto que es bosque, ustedes lo deforestarán. Y sus límites más lejanos serán suyos, porque echarán a los cananeos, aunque ellos tengan carros de hierro y sean fuertes.

En estos dos capítulos vemos el registro histórico de la forma en que las tribus de los descendientes de José ocuparon la tierra prometida y que lamentablemente no despojaron el territorio de los habitantes enemigos.
En los próximos capítulos vamos a estar notando esta frase tan triste: "los hijos de Israel no pudieron sacar a los habitantes de la tierra".

La tribu de Efraín era una tribu fuerte pero fueron negligentes con la misión de despojar la tierra conforme Dios les ordenó. Ellos tenían una infinidad de pretextos para no ir. Posiblemente se acomodaron con lo que habían alcanzado y pospusieron la avanzada militar para "después"; y cuando se hace eso, usualmente nunca se termina lo que se empezó.
Más adelante veremos que Josué reprende a los israelitas por su negligencia.

La tribu de Manasés tuvieron otra clase de pretextos y excusas. Ellos le reclamaron a Josué por más tierras; Josué les responde diciendo que ellos tienen todo el poder y la capacidad para despojar a los habitantes de la tierra y también para desmontar el bosque y prepararlo para que puedan habitar ahí. Ellos le respondieron con excusas diciendo que era muy complicado desmontar el bosque, que no era suficiente, que los habitantes eran muy poderosos, que ellos tenían carruajes militares, etc.
En pocas palabras, ellos habían caído en un pozo de miedo y temor.
Es increíble ver cómo Josué tenía una perspectiva diferente al de ellos, ya que él resaltó sus ventajas; eran una tribu grande, fuerte y poderosa que tenían todos los recursos para poder desalojar a los habitantes de esa tierra y además ¡tenían a Dios de su lado!, pero ellos no se distinguieron así, no vieron su cualidad, no sacaron provecho de sus beneficios.
Aprendamos del mal ejemplo de estas dos tribus para, primero, no ser negligentes con la misión que Dios nos ha dado; y segundo, tengamos cuidado con abrirle la puerta de nuestro corazón a ese espíritu de miedo y temor que nubla nuestra vista y no nos deja ver todos los talentos, virtudes y capacidades que Dios ha puesto en nosotros para poder confrontar al enemigo de nuestras almas y derrotarlo.
¡No olvidemos que, aunque nuestro Dios es eterno e invisible, también es un Dios que se hace visible por medio de milagros y prodigios!
No nos dejemos amedrentar por el enemigo porque cuando Dios dice que somos más que vencedores, realmente eso es lo que significa, que somos victoriosos por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
En vez de hacer como ellos que se quejaban con Josué y no consultaban a Dios, esperando que Josué les resolviera sus problemas, debemos más bien presentarnos delante de Dios y decirle: "Señor, por favor, dime qué quieres que haga” o "Por favor, Señor, muéstrame la manera para obtener la victoria y la liberación para mi familia, para mis hijos, para mi matrimonio”.

Recordemos cómo Caleb fue hacia Josué pero no para quejarse sino para que él lo autorizara a tomar posesión de más terreno, pues Caleb tenía la misma visión de Josué y la misma convicción de que Dios estaba con ellos; y si Dios les había prometido vencer a los enemigos, tenían la confianza de que Dios cumpliría su promesa.
Por último, recordemos el consejo del apóstol Pablo a Timoteo: "porque Dios no nos ha dado espíritu de cobardía sino de poder, amor y dominio propio."

Deseo con mi corazón que no te pierdas ninguno de los propósitos y planes que Dios tiene para ti con tu familia, simplemente por la negligencia o por miedos infundados, olvidando que el PODEROSO GIGANTE, nuestro Creador, está contigo.

Joshua 16 and 17: Excuses and pretexts.

Joshua 16:9-10:
The separate cities for the children of Ephraim were among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.
And they did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day and have become forced laborers.

Joshua 17:14-18:

Then the children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given us only one lot and one share to inherit, since we are a great people, inasmuch as the Lord has blessed us until now?”
So Joshua answered them, “If you are a great people, then go up to the forest country and clear a place for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and the giants, since the mountains of Ephraim are too confined for you.”
But the children of Joseph said, “The mountain country is not enough for us; and all the Canaanites who dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both those who are of Beth Shean and its towns and those who are of the Valley of Jezreel.”
And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—saying, “You are a great people and have great power; you shall not have only one lot, but the mountain country shall be yours. Although it is wooded, you shall cut it down, and its farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots and are strong.”

In these two chapters we see the historical record of how the tribes of Joseph's descendants occupied the promised land and, unfortunately, did not strip the territory of the enemy inhabitants.
In the next chapters we will be noticing this very sad phrase: "the children of Israel could not remove the inhabitants of the land".

The tribe of Ephraim was a strong tribe but they neglected the mission of stripping the land as God commanded them. They had plenty of excuses not to go. Possibly they became comfortable with what they had achieved and postponed the military advance for "later"; and when you do that, you usually never finish what you started.
Later we will see that Joshua rebuked the Israelites for their neglect.

The tribe of Manasseh had another kind of pretexts and excuses. They claimed Joshua for more land; Joshua responds by saying that they have all the power and capacity to dispossess the inhabitants of the land and also to clear the forest and prepare it so that they can live there. They responded with excuses saying that it was very difficult to clear the forest, that it was not enough, that the inhabitants were very powerful, that they had military carriages, etc.
In a few words, they had fallen into a pit of fear.
It is incredible to see how Joshua had a different perspective than theirs, since he highlighted their advantages; they were a large, strong and powerful tribe that had all the resources to be able to evict the inhabitants of that land and also had God on their side!, but they didn't distinguish themselves like that, they didn't see their qualities, they didn't take advantage of their benefits.
Let us learn from the bad example of these two tribes in order, first, not to neglect the mission that God has given us; and second, let us be careful not to open the door of our hearts to that spirit of fear that clouds our sight and does not let us see all the talents, virtues and capacities that God has placed in us to be able to confront the enemy of our souls and defeat him.

Let us not forget that, although our God is eternal and invisible, He is also a God who makes Himself visible through miracles and wonders!
Let us not be intimidated by the enemy because when God says that we are more than conquerors, that is really what it means, that we are victorious through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Instead of doing like them who complained to Joshua and did not consult God, hoping that Joshua would solve their problems, we should rather present ourselves before God and say: "Lord, please tell me what you want me to do" or "Please, Lord, show me the way to obtain victory and liberation for my family, for my children, for my marriage”.

Let's remember how Caleb went to Joshua but not to complain but for him to authorize him to take possession of more land, because Caleb had the same vision as Joshua and the same conviction that God was with them; and if God had promised them to defeat their enemies, they had the confidence that God would fulfill His promise.
Finally, let us remember the advice of the apostle Paul to Timothy: "For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice but of power, love and self-control."

I wish with my heart that you do not miss any of the purposes and plans that God has for you with your family, simply due to negligence or unfounded fears, forgetting that the POWERFUL GIANT, our Creator, is with you.
