Josué 19: Un buen comandante abnegado y comprometido.

Josué 19:47-51:
Pero faltó territorio a los hijos de Dan. Por eso, los hijos de Dan subieron y combatieron contra Lesem. Ellos la ocuparon e hirieron a filo de espada; tomaron posesión de ella y habitaron allí. Y a Lesem la llamaron Dan, según el nombre de su padre Dan. Estas ciudades con sus aldeas eran la heredad de la tribu de los hijos de Dan, según sus clanes.
Después que acabaron de distribuir los territorios de la tierra como heredad, los hijos de Israel dieron una heredad, en medio de ellos, a Josué hijo de Nun. Según el mandato del SEÑOR, le dieron la ciudad que pidió, Timnat-séraj, en la región montañosa de Efraín. Y él reedificó la ciudad y habitó en ella.
Estas son las heredades que el sacerdote Eleazar, Josué hijo de Nun y los jefes de las casas paternas de las tribus de los hijos de Israel distribuyeron por sorteo en Silo, delante del SEÑOR, a la entrada del tabernáculo de reunión. Y así acabaron de distribuir la tierra.

Estamos viendo en los últimos capítulos cómo Dios usó poderosamente a Josué, que a pesar de que ya era anciano, él todavía seguía con la misma convicción firme de que Dios estaba con ellos para seguir conquistando la tierra.

Un gran ejemplo de esa influencia grandiosa que tuvo Josué sobre los líderes del pueblo es cuando vemos a la tribu de Dan tomar valor para enfrentar a los enemigos que eran más poderosos que ellos para extender su territorio. Gracias al buen liderazgo de Josué, ellos conquistaron más espacio para sus familias.
Es admirable ver cómo Josué no fue un líder avaro ni egoísta, sino que dedicó toda su vida al servicio del pueblo de Dios guiándolos durante todo el tiempo de la conquista para que las tribus tuvieran sus respectivos lugares asegurados; por eso, al final de la repartición de la tierra a las tribus, vemos que a este gran líder le corresponde oportunidad para escoger su propiedad dentro del pueblo de Dios en la tierra prometida. Pudiendo haber escogido entre las primeras ciudades que conquistaron el prefirió ayudar a otros primero para que al final pudiera disfrutar de su propia tierra.

Esta es una lección importante para todos los que somos líderes en nuestro hogar o en nuestras congregaciones. No olvidemos que, si somos buenos mayordomos de los talentos que el Señor nos ha dado y somos responsables de las personas que están a nuestro cargo y a las que debemos guiar con el temor de Dios, al final veremos el fruto de esa labor.
Dios cumplió su promesa de darle la tierra que Josué había explorado, la que había tocado la planta de su pie así como lo hizo con Caleb. Caleb recibió su porción; y ahora Josué, como comandante del ejército de Israel, también recibió su porción.

Josué debía ser el primero en tomar la primera ciudad como herencia pero fue el último. Ese es el mejor ejemplo de comportamiento de un líder abnegado y dedicado a su pueblo, que también fue comandante y padre para ellos.
El General Hal Moore, quien dirigió la campaña militar de la batalla del Valle de Ia Drang en Vietnam, hizo esta promesa a su ejército: "No puedo prometerles que los traeré vivos a todos a casa. Pero esto lo juro, ante ti y ante Dios Todopoderoso, que cuando entremos en batalla, seré el primero en pisar el campo, y seré el último en pisar, y no dejaré a nadie atrás."
Este es un gran ejemplo de abnegación y entrega.
En un mundo donde el valor de la familia está siendo atacado por ideologías y filosofías que desprecian la vida humana y los roles familiares del hombre y la mujer, espero que hoy miremos más allá de nuestras propias necesidades y caprichos que quieran tentarnos a abandonar nuestra mayor misión en la vida y es dirigir nuestra familia por el camino de Dios, siendo ejemplo de que sí se puede vivir rectamente en un mundo injusto e inmoral, siempre con la ayuda de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

Joshua 21: The God who fulfills what He promises to His priests.

Joshua 21:43-45:
So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. The Lord gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand. Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.

In this chapter we see how the Israelites distributed cities to the tribe of Levi. Levi was the tribe that was not assigned a specific place in the territory, but they would be located in the middle of their brothers, scattered throughout the promised land. First, because God told them that their inheritance is the priesthood, that God Himself would be their inheritance. Second, because in that way they could live and manage the cities of refuge; in the previous topic we learned about it and its function as protection and doing justice in delicate cases in the midst of the people of Israel.

Levi's three clans: Gershon, Kohath and Merari were the last to receive their cities. These belonged to the tribes assigned to them and no one could take them away because they were dedicated forever as cities of the Levites, and so they could survive with their families producing crops and raising livestock. When it was time to help in the temple, they traveled to the temple and returned to their homes.
The Levites represented the presence of God among the people. They could bless the people, advise their neighbors about the sacred laws, and be their spiritual guide. Although all the Israelites should also go to the temple to offer offerings to the Lord, in daily life they had dedicated people, consecrated to God who could guide them in the spiritual area and thus all be able to please the Lord.
Many could consult God through them, asking for prayer and they could intercede with the Lord for them.

When God's purpose of distributing the whole land equitably has been fulfilled, we can read at the end of the chapter a powerful statement about the Lord's promises. God gave them all the land He promised them, their enemies could not overcome them, and everything that God had anticipated to them was fulfilled.

This teaching shows us the need to keep close to us people who lead a spiritual life consecrated to the Lord so that they can give us wise advice and guide us on the right path. Not someone who puts more fuel on the fire, who inflames the problem with wrong advice.
I hope that you and I can be those good neighbors who give that helping hand, fulfilling the Lord's mandate, since God declared that we are kings and priests for God! Let's put that priesthood into action by consecrating our lives to the service of those who need that spiritual support at decisive moments. That we can give appropriate advice and intercede for a home that is going through a difficult time.
That today we can affirm that commitment to live under the will of God and face every attack of the enemy that rises against us and our family, any thought or feeling that wants to separate us from the divine plan of the Lord with our marriage and our children. That we serve the Lord with courage and without fainting, that in the end we will receive the reward of our efforts.
So do not fear or faint because the same God who made these promises to Abraham and his descendants, the One who chose Moses to get the people out of slavery, the One who was with Joshua to conquer lands of giants, is with us today fulfilling His promises when He said: "And behold, I am with you every day, until the end of the world." (Matthew 28:20).
