Jueces 10: El Dios que ama, que es celoso y compasivo.

Jueces 10:6-16:
Los hijos de Israel volvieron a hacer lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR y sirvieron a los Baales, a las Astartes, a los dioses de Siria, a los dioses de Sidón, a los dioses de Moab, a los dioses de los hijos de Amón y a los dioses de los filisteos. Abandonaron al SEÑOR y no le sirvieron.
La ira del SEÑOR se encendió contra Israel, y él los entregó en mano de los filisteos y en mano de los hijos de Amón. Y en aquel tiempo, estos castigaron y oprimieron durante dieciocho años a los hijos de Israel, a todos los hijos de Israel que estaban al otro lado del Jordán, en la tierra de los amorreos que está en Galaad. Luego los hijos de Amón cruzaron el Jordán para hacer también la guerra contra Judá, contra Benjamín y contra la casa de Efraín; e Israel fue afligido en gran manera. Entonces los hijos de Israel clamaron al SEÑOR diciendo: —Hemos pecado contra ti, porque hemos abandonado a nuestro Dios y hemos servido a los Baales.
Y el SEÑOR respondió a los hijos de Israel: —Cuando eran oprimidos por Egipto, por los amorreos, por los amonitas, por los filisteos, por los de Sidón, por los de Amalec y por los de Maón, y clamaron a mí, ¿no los libré yo de su mano? Pero ustedes me han abandonado y han servido a otros dioses. Por eso, no los libraré más. ¡Vayan y clamen a los dioses que han elegido para ustedes! Que ellos los libren en el tiempo de su aflicción.
Y los hijos de Israel respondieron al SEÑOR: —Hemos pecado. Haz tú con nosotros todo lo que te parezca bien. Pero, por favor, líbranos en este día.
Entonces quitaron de en medio de ellos los dioses extraños y sirvieron al SEÑOR. Y él no pudo soportar más la aflicción de Israel.

En este capítulo vemos que Dios levantó un par de jueces buenos que trajeron paz a la tierra de Israel. Pero, después el pueblo, una vez más, desaprovechó este momento de paz y comenzaron a adorar otros dioses. Israel extendió la lista de dioses a los que adoraban.
¡Es increíble que Israel, conscientemente de lo que estaban haciendo, comenzaron a buscar a los dioses extraños de los habitantes que eran sus adversarios! Como consecuencia de este acto ofensivo, al transgredir los mandamientos del Señor, estos mismos habitantes enemigos de diferentes regiones comenzaron a invadirlos, oprimirlos y destruirlos.
Ellos clamaron a Dios, y Dios les contestó como alguien que está ofendido y agotado por esa actitud de infidelidad, burlándose del gran poder de Dios. Israel solo buscaba a Dios en su necesidad pero después que estaban bien le daban la espalda.

Dios es muy compasivo pero también es muy celoso. Él no comparte su gloria con nadie ni tampoco comparte la adoración y alabanza que sus hijos le ofrecen con otros dioses.
Así como el Señor es fiel y cumple sus promesas, Él también espera esto de aquellos que invocan su nombre. Él desea que todos los que le buscan en oración y a los que Dios les concede las peticiones tengan una actitud de agradecimiento, siendo fieles a Él.

Una cosa es el espíritu de celos cuando hay inseguridades en la persona y no confía en su pareja, y otra cosa es el sentimiento natural y genuino de sentir celos por alguien que ama.
El diccionario define la palabra celo como "un sentimiento que experimenta una persona cuando sospecha que la persona amada siente amor o cariño por otra, o cuando siente que otra persona prefiere a una tercera en lugar de a ella."
Es como cuando veo que alguien se acerca a mi esposa con intenciones equivocadas, e inmediatamente confronto al atrevido, demostrándole que está poniéndo sus ojos en la persona equivocada. Así mismo es Dios, como está escrito en Éxodo 34:14: “Porque no te has de inclinar a ningún otro dios, pues Jehová, cuyo nombre es Celoso, Dios celoso es.”

Al ver Dios que Israel se arrepintió y se despojó de esas relaciones de infidelidad espiritual con otros dioses paganos, el Señor no resistió verlos sufrir más. Nuestro Dios es un Dios compasivo, que no le gusta estar airado ni enojado con sus hijos. No le gusta vernos sufrir y por eso nos perdona y nos ayuda.
Hay un pasaje muy conocido en Salmo 103:8-9 que dice: “Compasivo y clemente es el SEÑOR, lento para la ira y grande en misericordia. No contenderá para siempre ni para siempre guardará el enojo”.
Otra versión lo interpreta con estas palabras: “El Señor es misericordioso y compasivo, es lento para enojarse y está lleno de amor. No nos acusa constantemente, ni permanece enojado para siempre.” (versión: Nueva Biblia Viva).

Espero que hoy hayamos aprendido las facetas de la forma de ser de nuestro Dios, que también tiene emociones y sentimientos, que espera nuestra fidelidad y que está dispuesto a socorrernos cuando escucha el clamor de sus hijos e hijas porque Él nos ama intensamente.

Judges 10: The God who loves, who is jealous and compassionate.

Judges 10:6-16:
Then the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the people of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the Lord and did not serve Him. So the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel; and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and into the hands of the people of Ammon. From that year they harassed and oppressed the children of Israel for eighteen years—all the children of Israel who were on the other side of the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, in Gilead. Moreover the people of Ammon crossed over the Jordan to fight against Judah also, against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed.
And the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against You, because we have both forsaken our God and served the Baals!”
So the Lord said to the children of Israel, “Did I not deliver you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites and from the people of Ammon and from the Philistines? Also the Sidonians and Amalekites and Maonites oppressed you; and you cried out to Me, and I delivered you from their hand. Yet you have forsaken Me and served other gods. Therefore I will deliver you no more. “Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in your time of distress.”
And the children of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned! Do to us whatever seems best to You; only deliver us this day, we pray.” So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord. And His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel.

In this chapter we see that God raised up a couple of good judges who brought peace to the land of Israel. But then the people, once again, missed this moment of peace and began to worship other gods. Israel extended the list of gods they worshiped.
It is incredible that Israel, aware of what they were doing, began to look for the strange gods of the inhabitants who were their adversaries! As a consequence of this offensive act, transgressing the commandments of the Lord, these same enemy inhabitants of different regions began to invade, oppress and destroy them.
They cried out to God, and God answered them as someone who is offended and exhausted by that attitude of infidelity, mocking the great power of God. Israel only sought God in their need but after they were well they turned their backs on Him.

God is very compassionate but He is also very jealous. He does not share His glory with anyone nor does He share the worship and praise that His children offer Him with other gods.
Just as the Lord is faithful and keeps His promises, He also expects this from those who call on His Name. He wants all those who seek Him in prayer and to whom God grants their requests to have an attitude of gratitude, being faithful to Him.

One thing is the spirit of jealousy when there are insecurities in the person and they do not trust their partner, and another thing is the natural and genuine feeling of being jealous of someone you love.
The dictionary defines the word jealousy as "a feeling that a person experiences when he suspects that the loved one feels love or affection for another, or when he feels that another person prefers a third person instead of himself."
It's like when I see someone approaching my wife with the wrong intentions, and I immediately confront the daredevil, showing him that he is setting his sights on the wrong person. That is how God is, as it is written in Exodus 34:14: “... for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God,...”

When God saw that Israel repented and got rid of those relationships of spiritual infidelity with other pagan gods, the Lord could not resist seeing them suffer more. Our God is a compassionate God, who does not like to be angry with His children. He doesn't like to see us suffer and that's why He forgives us and helps us.
There is a well-known passage in Psalm 103:8-9 that says: “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever.”
Another version interprets it with these words: “The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.” (version: New Living Translation).

I hope that today we have learned the facets of the way of being of our God, who also has emotions and feelings, who expects our faithfulness and that He is willing to help us when He hears the cry of His sons and daughters because He loves us intensely.
