Melbourne rocker Karly Jewell has refused to let the many disappointments thrown her way over the last 18 months deter what was rapidly becoming a solid foothold in the music industry.

Rather than dwell on the negatives, Jewell knuckled down and did the one thing she was in complete control of - write music - compiling a mass of notes and songs that will hopefully see her and her band kickstart back into the community with the same momentum they left.

After seeing dreams of overseas touring fade with little to show for it at the onset of the pandemic, Jewell, like many others in her position, is starting to see light at the far end of the tunnel with shows steadily improving and opportunities again coming her way.

Her latest single Dancing With The Devil originally saw the light of day earlier this year but has now been re-released in a time more susceptible to music, possibly with even fresher ears because of recent circumstances.

Jewell joined HEAVY for a chat to discuss the single and other exciting possibilities.

"It's definitely next level for me," she enthused of the song. "I think it's finally captured the sound that was meant for us. Not long when I released the Phoenix album, and we spoke about it and that was the perfect sound for then, but we've got a new guitarist now, Adrian, and he's really captured that next sound that I was trying to create. It's a lot heavier and kind of touches on a bit of everything. It takes you on a bit of a journey. This has come out as a single and is a song for me where you kind of realise you've got this. Dance With The Devil wasn't the devil himself, it was more… a different way to say depression because we all know that's a darkness, and how can we make that a positive thing. I've seen in my own life that I've got this demon which would be depression, but I'm the boss, and I'm gonna write a song about it. Nothing's gonna stop me. I lead the way in this dance."
