show moreIn the fall of 2016, he made contact with the crew of treasure hunters on Oak Island, Nova Scotia, led by Rick and Marty Lagina, and Craig Tester.
He is also a member of the Royal Nova Scotia Historical Society and of the National Trust for Scotland. His theory about the treasure ranked as #6 on a special Top 25 episode of Curse of Oak Island, in 2019. He has appeared on the show five times, so far. The first piece of information he passed on to the Oak Island team is that his own distant cousin, Sir Ian MacDonald MacUisdean, is the premier Knight Baronet of Nova Scotia, a title first received in 1625. McQuiston is certain that the Oak Island mystery began with an attempt by Scots to settle Nova Scotia in the early 1600s, ending with their expulsion in 1632. He feels they left behind a cache of treasure and goods on Oak Island and were never able to retrieve it due to the French taking over Nova Scotia, and the War of Three Kingdoms beginning in Great Britain. He backs all of his theories up with historical documents, logic, and science, where available.
His latest book is Oak Island and the Mayflower.
