My guest this week is Khalif Tahir Thompson, a young African-American visual artist who is just about to graduate from the Yale School of Arts and will be having his very first solo exhibit in Paris, beginning this Thursday, March 28th. Kalif is a painter, printmaker and papermaker who creates bright and bold portraits, mixing textures, colors, and symbols, on large-scale canvases.

Khalif has been called a prodigy, a virtuoso, and "a rising star in contemporary Black portraiture.” In our conversation, Khalif shares the evolution of his work, how family portraits can reveal the universal, how Scooby Doo and Amy Winehouse changed his life, and so much more.

Khalif’s exhibit “Chilly Winds Don’t Blow” opens this Thursday, March 28th in the Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery.

About Us Who will be the world's next Salvador Dali, Thierry Mugler, or Josephine Baker, launching a new wave of the avant-garde? How are new artforms created, developed, honed? And where exactly do today's artists and creatives find their inspirations?

Each week, join City of Muses host Jennifer Geraghty as she sits down with contemporary artists, poets, dancers, designers, and performers to explore what inspires them, what their creative processes are like, where their ideas come from, and how Paris has helped or hindered their dreams come true.

Inspiration and creativity meet in Paris, the City of Muses.
