UK metalcore/djent outfit InRetrospect have been steadily working towards an album since their inception in early 2018.

A combination of life, elements, and a super virus have all conspired to slow down the progress of this immensely talented band, forcing them to re-evaluate their early plans and release a succession of singles to keep the band not only relevant in a changing musical landscape, but also provide them a firm platform from which to launch their assault on the world music scene.

After the release earlier this month of their latest single Limerence, vocalist Nathan Biddles joined HEAVY for a chat about InTrospect and their music.

"We were after a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde sort of thing with it," he explained of the song. "We've got really, really heavy parts and then we've got really, really soft melodic and clean parts. The whole idea behind the song and the word Limerence is like an unhealthy infatuation with someone, so it's a little bit of a metaphor... have you seen the film Joker? There's a bit in the Joker where he's thinking that he's in a relationship with someone and he's sat in the house and everything's going really well and then it cuts back again and he's not in this relationship with her and he's some sort of psycho. He's sat in the house and she's panicking like hell. It's that sort of scenario and how you think you're with someone and this infatuation is kind of what leads you to believe that somethings happening. It's quite dark, which we tried to put a bit of light on it as well by having the clean vocals with the screams."

In the full interview Nathan discusses the history of the band including his joining in 2020, the decision to release a succession of singles leading up to an album, working out which vocal parts demand clean vocals and which one's better suit screams, new music and more.
